Sustainable Resources – Waste to Energy

November 2020

In November 2018, Peel Environmental announced they had completed a deal with renewable energy developer Cogen, and its partners, for a 240,000 tonne per annum energy from waste facility at Hooton Park, Wirral. The facility will be the first merchant waste and power project in the UK and is scheduled for completion in the second half of 2021. The new facility when operational will produce 25MW of renewable power capable of powering approximately 50,000 homes.

Around 350 jobs will be associated with the construction stage at its peak, and the ongoing operation of the facility will generate up to 30 permanent positions.

The deal represents the second deal that Peel has completed with Cogen following on from the waste wood Biomass power plant that is now built and operational at Protos. The project is the fifth energy from waste project that Cogen are delivering in the UK.
